She was born on P*n to a lordling with the uncanny luck to have Impressed to a White dragon. His empathy was high, and continued to be, capturing his attendant's heart. Together they had five bastard children, Thesoba next-to-last; she was of too low status for him to marry. He was warned that if he should marry her he would be disowned. So he did not, and they lived together happily anyway.
Thesoba was searched in a hurry the day before the Hatching. Everyone was surprised that their super-average sister would qualify to be a rider. She was nineteen and being groomed to be a young Lady. She kind of liked the boy she had been betrothed to. But she figured "what the heck" and left with the dragon and rider. Little did she know that she would become a rider the very next day!
As a young rider, she became very interested in the mental conditioning of weyrlings. She wanted to learn how to cut down a weyrling's level of fear, which often leads to mistakes and then death. Life as a weyrling is dangerous and it just seemed that people would freeze or panic despite their training and trusting one's instincts is not always the best way to live. At least not alone. So she has been studying ways to disrupt fear and stay focused. Together with the Weyrlingmaster and the other Assistants, she has lowered the casualties of training and threadfall.
She is conflicted about leaving her post at the Weyr, and the planet for that matter. She has responsibilities that she enjoys and would miss her family very much. But she is willing to go (with her dragon of course) because it is her duty to follow those kinds of orders too.
