Hair/armor/feathers/fur: Her hair hangs in tight spirals that even pulled into a ponytail hang to her shoulder-blades in cascading blue-black.
Skin/exoskeleton/scales/markings: Though her skin is dark-brown naturally, a trait shared by most members of her family, she spends enough time in the sun to become a warm, nearly-black hue.
Limbs: The first time she shifted from a giraffe into her natural human form, something went wrong. Ever since then the deformity in her hands has been such that she can no longer write, though superficially they look normal, if only rather stiff.
Eyes: Her golden-brown eyes are wide and dark, the color seeming to fade smoothly from pale yellowy-brown at the edges (and edged in nearly-black brown) into liquid pools of black pupil. They are rimmed with lashes that are unreal in their thickness and length.
Size/Physique: The majority of her imposing 6'5" height is in her limbs. They are truly reminiscent of the giraffe in their slender length, though unlike a giraffe she is very limber and can fold down to a rather unimposing height when seated in chair with the kids or in the saddle of her green. Her muscles seem almost too tight with energy.
Other: She favors functionality of khaki, pocketed short-pants rolled-up halfway to her knee; tall, lace-up boots as needed, though she prefers to go barefoot. A light-colored tank-top (or long-sleeve as needed) shirt is covered with even more pockets built into her dark-brown vest. Because she can shift, sleeves can become a hindrance, after all.
Animal-shifting: Like some others in her family, Fhariji can shift at will into the form of one animal: the giraffe.
Storytelling: Fhariji has a great gift in that she can weave a story such that even the unimaginative can be swept away with her. She has been a "storyteller" since she was small and could weave a great yarn to answer Great Questions such as, "Where have you been, young lady?" that left the adults torn between anger at her antics and laughter-filled amusement. It is no special power, but the combination of wordplay, a natural rhythm in her speech, and her gestures, are all well-practiced and creative. Sometimes it is unclear whether she believes her stories or not.

From Sedona:
She is a great story teller and has a good memory for myths and superstitions. She is outgoing and friendly, and also has a fondness for children. Generally selfless and giving, she can also be shrewd and observant.
Attitude: She has more patience with children, dragons, and animals than she does with adult humans. Many of the latter carry attitudes (such as arrogance and pushiness) that rub her the wrong way. As a result, though children and just regular people tend to love her, she has a rather unwarrented reputation for disrespecting authority and other riders. She seems unapproachable or almost disdainful, most likely because she has something big to hide: her ability to shift. Though it is a documented gift in her family history, in the holds surrounding Sedona she must keep this secret. Within Sedona, historically-speaking her strange ability has been met with some resistance, prejudice, and even outright hatred. It takes great inner strength to face that head-on.
Hobbies: She loves telling stories and really gets into the performance, playing with her voice and gestures. She has a decent singing voice and sometimes puts the tales to a familiar tune. She is often found sitting near V'ben while she researches new harper tales.
Plans: Someday she would love to choreograph a production that draws the kids into the telling, to perform for the whole We're. She wants V'ben to write the script for her (dictated of course).
Fhariji's family originates neither in the Old World nor Darkling Dawn, though many have taken up residence at the latter. They are decended from an offworld, shamanistic tribe and part of the legacy is the ability to channel a protective spirit to guide an individual through life. Everyone can channel this protector, but only some can communicate with, learn the name of, or even borrow its shape. It really depends most on an innate ability, however small, plus a dedication to learning the techniques.
Her first time away from Darkling Dawn was when her wing transferred to Sedona, along with her siblings, parents, and many other riders. She was ill-equipped for the change in attitude toward people whom are "different," and her shifting ability was not well-known even among her wingmates. It remained a large family secret for many years (turns, as the locals called them).
This family seems closer to death than some, though nothing extraordinary is the cause: no enemies and curses, no specifically reckless behavior, no offworld journeys (besides between the two places) or battles nor even Threadfall. Her sister died in training as a Weyrling Assistant. Her parents, weyrmates, died as a result of a mating flight of a heart attack, and a broken heart, respectively. These are not so uncommon ways to die, but the surviving relatives nevertheless carry that weight with them, and treasure the family they have remaining.
Since their mother died several turns back, the care of Fhariji's three youngest siblings has been placed between herself and her eldest (surviving) brother, Magjhizu. The life of a greenrider is quite busy and it was agreed between them that at least the three kids would get more one-on-one attention with her brother's family at Darkling Dawn. Though it is not explicitly needed, he uses his metalsmithy trade as an excuse to frequently visit Sedona, so she has the opportunity to watch them while he goes about his business. Needless to say, the five siblings enjoy a closer relationship than most, despite their distance apart.
